Little Jungle Beach Town

Little jungle beach town.

The smell of burning coconuts and the sounds of reggae stain the air. But behind it all is the cicada concert. The real sound of the little jungle beach town.

The one paved road doubles as the main sidewalk, lined with tacky souvenir shops tasteful enough to take your money for the elephant print pants and matching crochet crop top you’ll never wear back home.

That ocean breeze hits you on cue. The only beach accessory you need is the slight shade of the palm leaf. Mama ocean cleanses you. Father sun strengthens you. The cushy sand cradles you. And the one thing on your to do list is laundry.  Which is stressful enough.

Little jungle beach town. Your creativity’s springboard, launching your greatest ideas. Ideas that remain ideas because lethargy has gotten the best of you.

Home to the charming world traveler that forgot his whereabouts and where he left his razor. He wanders the jungle barefoot and shirtless on a search for his next dose. He’s looking for what we’re all looking for. “Could you be love?”. But he won’t find it in between the sheets with his current international transient lover. He’ll realize this when he’s full yet not fulfilled.

Monday might as well be Saturday. The strands of your hair haven’t touched a brush in weeks. Your phone storage is full with sunset selfies. And you too are still not fulfilled.

Little jungle beach town. A refuge for genius vegan chefs that abandoned the western world’s definition of success. Here they will redefine success. No shoes allowed in their vegan cafes that double as a yoga studio. Or chairs. Sitting on the floor as you sip on your daily sweet tropical fruit smoothie. You’ve never ate so damn healthy in your life. You’ve never felt better. But you wonder why you still don’t feel your best.

That’s because little jungle beach town is paradise…until it’s not. The darkness will eventually peep through the endless sunshine. Little jungle beach town only provides temporary happiness. The permanent version is up to you.

A town full of seekers, all seeking the same thing. We put too much pressure on little jungle beach town. It’s not her job to fill the void. And she’ll make that clear to us. Eventually.

You’ll wanna leave. You’ll always come back.
